Ahmed Idris, the suspended Accountant General of the Federation, is embroiled in a controversy that could engulf a number of government officials.

Some are said to be members of President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet, national and state elected officials, heads of agencies, parastatals, and top civil workers.

Idris was detained on May 16 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged fraud of over N80 billion.

However, PRNigeria's Economic Confidential reported, citing inside sources, that the money under investigation could be worth around N200 billion.

Detectives interrogating Idris unearthed names, companies, and astonishing figures that are now being investigated.

The suspect has confessed and supplied evidence of cash, withdrawals, and deposits in both domestic and international currencies.

The EFCC arrested former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari last week as a result of his revelation. He is still being held in jail.

Anthony Yaro, the Chairman and Managing Director of Finex Professional, has also been arrested by the anti-graft agency.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Idris, announced the nomination of Anamekwe Nwabuoku as acting AGF just days after Idris was sacked.

However, he, too, is being watched after being accused of financial misdeeds. Due to an ongoing investigation, the official is known to visit the EFCC offices in Abuja.

He is accused of "overpaying" himself while serving in previous ministerial and agency positions.

Some of the alleged breaches occurred while Nwabuoku was the Ministry of Defence's Director of Finance and Accounts.

Another case involved alleged fraud with the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS), which is used to pay federal government employees' salaries.
