Rilwanu Gadagau, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, was killed on the Kaduna-Zaria highway.
He was the Assembly's Chairman of the Local Government and Rural Development Committee.
The criminals who attacked road users on Monday night reportedly killed Gadagau. Wednesday morning, his lifeless body was discovered.
Speaker of the Assembly Yusuf Zailani confirmed the incident on Wednesday, calling the legislator's death "devastating."
The Speaker said Gadagau died in a bandit attack on the roadway and his body was found two days later.
“This is awful and painful,” the statement says. This unfortunate event has really saddened us.
“Our prayers are with his family right now. The Honourable Gadagau was a passionate advocate for his district, state, and Nigeria. We will miss his vivaciousness.
“Our thoughts are with those kidnapped in the same operation, hoping for their swift rescue by security personnel.”
The bandits also reportedly killed another traveller, Sani Dogara. He was one of over 30 people kidnapped by bandits who besieged the road.
