Presidential letter to the Senate requesting approval of the appointment of some National Electoral Commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioners to replace the outgoing ones has been sent by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Malam Mohammed Haruna of Niger State has been nominated to be the North Central – National Commissioner, Mrs May Agbamuche Mbu of Delta State has been nominated to be the South South National Commissioner, and Okeagu Kenneth Nnamdi of Abia State has been nominated to be the South East National Commissioner.
National Commissioners for Adamawa State, North East, Professor Rada H. Gumus, Bayelsa State, South South, Mr. Sam Olumeku, Ondo State, South West, and Olaniyi Olaleye Ijalaye, Ondo State, South West, have also been appointed, as has Major General A.B. Alkali (retired) as National Commissioner for Adamawa State, North East (Resident Electoral Commissioner).
He was selected to replace Lauretta Onochie, who had been nominated by him but had been rejected by the Senate at the time.
President Buhari also sent the names of nominees for commissioners on the National Population Commission, which was established by the National Population Commission Act.
Mr. Benedict Opong, Mrs Gloria Izofor, Barr. Mrs Patricia O. Iyayan Kuchi, Dr. Bala Haliru, and Dr. Iyatayo Oyetunbi are the members of the committee.
