Canada has commended the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for the successful organisation of a diaspora conference held across three cities in Canada.

The commendation was made by Canada's Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Carlos Rojas-Arbulú, during a courtesy visit to the NiDCOM Chair, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Lagos on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The Canadian envoy described the conference as an important step towards strengthening relations between Nigeria and Canada, noting that it created opportunities for greater cooperation and engagement between the two countries.

Rojas-Arbulú also praised NiDCOM and its 15-member NiDEC Planning Committee for organising what he described as an impactful conference with positive outcomes.

Responding to the commendation, Dabiri-Erewa expressed appreciation to the Canadian authorities for their support and partnership.

She said the feedback was an indication that the conference had achieved its objectives and assured that NiDCOM would work with relevant stakeholders to sustain the momentum generated by the event.

According to her, the Commission will continue to strengthen its engagement with Nigerians living abroad while creating more opportunities for collaboration, investment and contributions to Nigeria's development.

Dabiri-Erewa also expressed optimism that the partnership between Nigeria and Canada would continue to grow for the benefit of both countries.

The three-day conference, held in three Canadian cities, brought together senior government officials from Nigeria and Canada, diaspora professionals, investors and other stakeholders.

Participants discussed opportunities for deeper cooperation, investment and development, with a focus on strengthening the contribution of Nigerians in the diaspora to national development.

NiDCOM said the conference represents part of its broader efforts to maintain stronger links between Nigeria and its citizens abroad and to create platforms through which diaspora expertise, investment and partnerships can support the country's development.
