The fatal incident occurred on Thursday near the Kawo Division area of Kaduna metropolis, according to information obtained by SaharaReporters.
The victims were identified as Inspector Tanko Musa and Inspector Ajubi Onah, both serving at Kawo Division.
A source said the officers were crossing the road when the speeding Hilux vehicle crashed into them.
"It is a black day for Kawo Division. We have lost two of our personnel, Tanko Musa and Ajubi Onah, after a Toyota Hilux driven by a drunk soldier knocked them down while they were crossing the road at the NDA Junction in Kaduna," the source said.
A video from the scene showed the bodies of the two officers lying on the road as residents and sympathisers gathered around the area following the crash.
As of the time of filing this report, the soldier allegedly involved in the accident had not been arrested.
The Nigerian Army and the Kaduna State Police Command had also not released any official statement regarding the incident.
The latest tragedy adds to previous cases involving military personnel and fatal road crashes.
In March 2025, a soldier stationed at a checkpoint in Zaria reportedly drove against traffic and fatally knocked down a commercial motorcyclist.
Similarly, in December 2024, two civilians lost their lives in Kano after a military Hilux vehicle reportedly lost control and rammed into a roadside market. Witnesses also alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
