Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of trying to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. He made the claim after the African Democratic Congress state congress in Sokoto on Saturday, saying there was a plan for only the APC to remain stable while other parties faced crisis.
Tambuwal said, “This is no longer about parties,” and added that “Nigerians are watching.” He also linked recent defections into the APC to fear and political survival, not performance.
He described the next election as a contest between the president, his allies and ordinary Nigerians. The former governor also pointed to unrest in the PDP and Labour Party as signs that opposition politics is under pressure.
The Presidency and the APC rejected the allegation. Presidential aide Daniel Bwala said Tinubu had no role in opposition party crises, while APC spokesman Felix Morka said people were joining the ruling party voluntarily.
