President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka.
The President also redeployed Doris Anite-Uzoka to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.
Tinubu conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday.
Oyedele’s Background and Experience
Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system as part of the administration’s broader fiscal reform agenda.
An indigene of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and accountant has over two decades of experience across the public and private sectors.
He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Oyedele has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Before his nomination, he spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, joining the firm in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. In that role, he advised governments and multinational organisations on tax and fiscal policy matters.
In academia, Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
What This Means for Nigeria’s Fiscal Reforms
Oyedele’s nomination is expected to strengthen the administration’s fiscal reform drive, particularly in revenue mobilisation, tax administration, and economic coordination, pending Senate confirmation.
His appointment comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to expand the tax base, improve compliance, and stabilise Nigeria’s public finances.
