Ukraine Reports Massive Overnight Missile and Drone Attack, Vows Stronger Air Defense Response
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed details of a large-scale overnight assault by Russia, involving nearly 50 missiles and 297 drones targeting multiple regions across Ukraine.
According to the President, the attack included 22 ballistic missiles, with a significant number intercepted by Ukrainian air defense systems. He expressed gratitude to Ukraine’s international partners for their continued support in supplying air defense missiles, stressing that “protection is needed every day.”
Zelenskyy said Russian forces targeted not only energy infrastructure but also logistics networks, including railway systems and municipal water supply facilities. During a coordination call with regional authorities, he emphasized the need to scale up protection measures and quickly adapt to changes in Russian military tactics.
In the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region, a church sustained damage from a missile strike, while residential buildings in several other regions were also hit. Emergency services are providing assistance to affected civilians.
The President further disclosed that additional defense forces have been ordered to strengthen air protection over the Sumy region. A day earlier, in the Shostka district, a Russian drone reportedly struck an ambulance in what officials described as a deliberate attack, killing three people.
Zelenskyy stated that Russia must face consequences for every strike and assured residents in border and frontline areas that air defense coverage would be intensified.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs briefed the President on the ongoing investigation into a reported terrorist attack in Lviv. While full details remain confidential, several suspects have been detained, and authorities say further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
The Ukrainian government reiterated its commitment to defending the country and protecting civilians amid continued hostilities.
