Tinubu Orders Security Overhaul in Northern Nigeria, Approves Drone Acquisitions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate review of security operations in northern Nigeria in response to the recent wave of bandit attacks terrorizing communities.

Speaking on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of eminent Katsina State citizens, led by Governor Dikko Radda, at the State House, President Tinubu vowed that his administration would strengthen countermeasures with advanced military hardware and surveillance drones, adding that additional acquisitions have been approved.

“The security challenges we are facing are surmountable. We have porous borders and inherited weaknesses, but they are challenges we must fix.
I have directed all security agencies to energise further and review their strategies. We have also approved the additional acquisition of drones,” Tinubu stated.

The President emphasized that security agencies must now provide daily operational updates from Katsina and other affected states to ensure improved responsiveness.

He revealed that the federal government is considering the establishment of state police and an upgrade of recently deployed forest guards to bolster local security intelligence and operations.

“We will defeat insecurity. We must protect our children, people, livelihood, places of worship, and recreational spaces. They can’t intimidate us,” he assured.

Tinubu also acknowledged that different states have unique security dynamics that demand tailored solutions, saying community-based outfits familiar with local terrains and cultures would enhance efficiency in combating crime.

During the meeting, the President pledged to immortalise former President Muhammadu Buhari, hailing him as “a leader who left behind a legacy of success and a strong political structure.”

Governor Radda, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the President for his sustained commitment to Katsina State, outlining the region’s pressing needs in security, youth empowerment, and infrastructure.

He commended Tinubu for what he described as “unfailing responsiveness” to the state’s requests, urging the Federal Government to sustain its support to secure vulnerable communities and boost development across the state.
