Kano Government Recruits 4,315 Teachers, Launches New Education Reforms

The Kano State Government has ratified the recruitment of 4,315 former BESDA volunteer teachers into permanent and pensionable service, in a move aimed at strengthening the state’s education sector.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who made the announcement, said the development builds on earlier approvals that saw 5,500 teachers recruited in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025, all absorbed into the state’s workforce from the BESDA voluntary teaching scheme.

To further consolidate these reforms, the governor also approved the recruitment of an additional 2,616 teachers and launched a ₦200 million vehicle loan scheme for school operations. In addition, 444 motorcycles and 300 computers were distributed to improve monitoring and evaluation across schools.

As part of efforts to expand access, the administration directed the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with 180 pupils and upgraded another school in Ungogo Local Government Area into a boarding facility. The government has also engaged 17,000 watchmen to boost security in schools across the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized that these measures are already yielding results, noting Kano’s recent recognition as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO examination.
