Five Police Officers Shot in York County, Pennsylvania; Suspect Dead

Five law enforcement officers were shot Wednesday afternoon during the service of a warrant in York County, Pennsylvania, authorities confirmed.

The incident unfolded around 2:10 p.m. in North Codorus Township, when a suspect opened fire on officers attempting to execute the warrant. According to sources, three officers from the Northern York Regional Police Department are in grave condition, while a fourth officer from the same department is listed in critical condition. A York County Sheriff’s deputy was also wounded.

The alleged shooter is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

Pennsylvania State Police have taken over the investigation, while a large law enforcement presence secured the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a medical helicopter airlifting victims from the area.

Hospital Response
A spokesperson for WellSpan York Hospital confirmed that two individuals connected to the shooting are being treated in serious condition. The hospital also activated “enhanced security protocols” following the incident.

Government Reaction
Governor Josh Shapiro said he had been briefed and was traveling to York County.

“I’ve been briefed on the situation involving law enforcement in York County, and am on my way there now,” he posted on X.

Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis and Attorney General Dave Sunday also took to X, urging residents to avoid the area and offering prayers for those affected.

Impact on Schools
The Spring Grove Area School District was placed under a shelter-in-place order, which remained in effect until just before 5 p.m.

Authorities have not released further details about the suspect or the warrant being served.
