Grandmother Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Grandchildren with Cake, Leaving One Dead.

A 59-year-old grandmother, Izabel Cardoso de Andrade, has been arrested in São Francisco, Brazil, for allegedly poisoning her two grandchildren with a cake, resulting in the death of nine-year-old Alana dos Santos Cardoso Marques.

Alana’s 11-year-old sister, who ate less, survived with milder symptoms, while the family cat also died after eating the cake.

The incident occurred on July 23, when both children began vomiting and experiencing severe stomach pain shortly after eating the treat. Alana was rushed to the hospital but died of cardiopulmonary arrest.

Forensic tests later confirmed the presence of terbufos, a highly toxic pesticide, in both the cake and Alana’s body.

Police are investigating whether the poisoning was deliberate or accidental, as no clear motive has yet been established.

The grandmother’s lawyer stated she is cooperating fully with authorities. The investigation remains ongoing.
