President Urges Patience Amidst Alleged Embezzlement Investigation and Approves Probe into National Social Register Expenditure.

The Presidency urged patience regarding the investigation into the alleged embezzlement of N585 million by the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Betta Edu.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Advisor to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu approved N3 billion for the validation of the National Social Register during the previous administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

The expenditure was authorized from the Covid-19 Palliative Fund for verification. The EFCC has been directed by the President to investigate the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

Onanuga emphasized the need for patience and cautioned against media trials, allowing the EFCC to complete its findings and present the results to the President for appropriate action.

Reports indicate payments to various consulting companies, including N438.1 million to a company owned by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, under national social register contract.
