In Santa Clara, California, a Google software engineer, Liren Chen, has been charged with murder after allegedly beating his wife, Xuanyi Yu, to death at their home.
Santa Clara police discovered the scene when responding to a 911 call from an acquaintance, finding Chen in the bedroom with his wife's body behind him. Chen, also a Google engineer, had severe injuries to his right hand and blood on his clothing.
The incident occurred on January 16, and Chen's arraignment, delayed until Jan. 22 due to hospitalization, has sparked a call for awareness on domestic violence by District Attorney Jeff Rosen.
Both Chen and Yu had studied at China's Tsinghua University and the University of California, San Diego. Google expressed deep sadness and offered support to the affected families and coworkers.
