Muhammed, who is a local vigilante, committed the crime on September 29, 2023, with the motive of stealing the motorcycle to fund his upcoming wedding. The police spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, presented Muhammed and others arrested for various offenses on October 9. On October 1, 2023, a lifeless body with a slit throat was found in Shabalile, Mokwa, prompting a swift police response. The victim was taken to the hospital morgue. During the investigation on October 2, 2023, a motorcycle believed to belong to the victim was discovered in an unfinished building, leading to Muhammed's arrest.

He confessed to the crime, admitting to attacking the rider during a journey and stealing the motorcycle. Muhammed also confessed to similar crimes on eight previous occasions. The case is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna
