The All Progressives Congress, APC's candidate for governor, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, filed a petition with the governorship election petition tribunal, which met in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, on Friday.Read full article
You may recall that Sen. Omo-Agege had contested Sheriff Oborevwori's victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship election as a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Omo-Agege's petition was denied by the tribunal chaired by Justice A.C. Ahuchaogu for lack of merit.
In a prompt response, Omo-Agege announced he will challenge the election tribunal's decision to reject his plea in a statement provided by Sunny Areh, his media adviser.
He stated that he had prepared his legal team to contest the tribunal's decision at the Appellate Court.
The appellate court, according to Omo-Agege, is anticipated to objectively assess various issues that the tribunal judges are reported to have missed before reaching their decision.
"Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, a candidate for governor in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former vice president of the Senate, has instructed his legal team to file an appeal against today's ruling by the governorship election tribunal upholding the election of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as governor of Delta State.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s announcement as the winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election was fatally flawed, according to Senator Omo-Agege, and the Tribunal failed to take it into account.
"It goes without saying that the Tribunal worked in a setting that was extraordinarily difficult. As a result, it disregarded the irrefutable evidence presented to contest the legitimacy of the legitimate votes as reported by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
"I appreciate the Tribunal's judgement, but it is flawed. I am certain that the Court of Appeal will objectively assess these issues that the Tribunal neglected to consider.
I have therefore instructed my legal team to visit the Court of Appeal right now and continue the battle to reestablish the integrity of the popular vote.
