19-year-old After defeating Aryna Sabalenka, the second-seeded player, Coco Gauff wins the US Open and captures her maiden Grand Slam championship.

Coco Gauff's victory makes her the first American to win a US Open singles championship since Sloane Stephens in 2017.

Many thanks to those who didn't think highly of me. People told me that the 1000 championship I won (in Cincinnati) was the biggest one I would ever win.

I did my best to carry this with grace, but those who believed they were dousing my fire with water actually added gas because I am now burning so brightly.

Oh my gosh, that means so lot to me that I feel somewhat shocked. You go through trials because God allows it, and that makes it even sweeter than I could have imagined. My faith has been crucial, and I'm incredibly grateful for this time in my life.

Because Aryna is such a talented player, I felt that if I didn't give it everything I had little chance of succeeding. I've never seen my father weep before, but today I did.
