JUST IN: Federal Government Approves New N25,000 Allowances For Medical Doctors

The Federal Government has approved the payment of twenty-five thousand naira (N25,000) peculiar allowance for medical and dental doctors in hospitals, medical centres, and clinics in the federal public service as part of measures to end the current strike by members of the National Association of Resident Doctors.

Ekpo Nta, the chairman and chief executive officer of the national salaries and wages commission, revealed this in a statement. He said that the overhead money would be used to pay the allowance.

The Federal government has also released circulars on some of the requests of the striking doctors, such as the Circular on Review of CONMESS, which specifies a 25% increase for CONMESS 1 through 6 (1-6) and a 35% increase for CONMESS 7. Another circular, "Review of CONHESS," shows twenty-five percent (25%) for CONMESS one through fourteen (1–14) and thirty-five percent (35%) for CONHESS fifteen (15). The circular on Hazard Allowance is also provided.

Remember how the resident doctors announced a strike that would last forever on Tuesday, July 25? The association's requests include the early payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) for 2023, the prompt publication of the one-for-one replacement circular, the payment of skipping arrears, and an upward review of CONMESS in accordance with the full salary restoration to the 2014 value of CONMESS.
