I've never experienced heartbreak, singer Simi boasts.

The well-known Nigerian musician Simisola Kosoko, often known by her stage name Simi, has admitted that she has never experienced sadness in a relationship or been served breakfast.

In a recent interview with reality star Tacha on Lagos' Cool FM, Simi—who is wed to afrobeats musician Adekunle Gold—said that her heartbreak songs aren't inspired by her own personal experiences.

Simi remarked in reference to her most recent song about heartbreak, "Stranger," that perhaps the reason she is able to create meaningful music is because she stands up for the grieving. In Simi's own words:

"I don't believe I've ever experienced heartbreak. I dunno, that song ["Stranger"] just came to me so naturally. Perhaps I'm just a champion for those who have repeatedly eaten breakfast while grieving [laughs].

I am here to help them. Someone has to be, after all. And then I realised what I had been thinking: I value love greatly and consider it frequently. And I thought that there was one viewpoint that I probably hadn't looked at in that way: Although they haven't served you breakfast yet, you have the impression that you have changed significantly and are doing things, accepting things, or adapting to situations that you ordinarily would never do. Then, one day, you observe.

Then, one day, you catch yourself looking in the mirror and think, "I don't know that person."

"In my opinion, that was the viewpoint that would be enjoyable to sing or write about. The same thing is happening to my emotions. And I think that people, especially those who are currently experiencing heartbreak, would be able to identify to it.
