Breaking: Benue's governorship election won by a Catholic priest(Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia).

Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, a suspended Roman Catholic priest and APC candidate in Benue State, has been proclaimed the victor of the Saturday governorship election.

The statement was made on Monday in Makurdi, the state capital, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, through the Returning Office Prof. Faruq Kuta, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Titus Uba, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, and Herman Lorwase Hembe, a candidate for the Labour Party, lost to Alia in a close contest.

Titus Uba, the Catholic priest's closest rival, finished second with 223,913 votes, but the priest won with 473, 933 votes.
