Qatar 2022: Cavani, another two players, and three others banned by FIFA.

Edinson Cavani, a former attacker for Manchester United, was one of the four players FIFA banned on Friday.

Following their 2022 FIFA World Cup match against the Black Stars of Ghana in Qatar, Cavani and his Uruguayan teammate Diego Godin confronted the referee. Each player received a one-game suspension.

Additionally, FIFA imposed a four-match suspension on Jose Maria Gimenez and Fernando Muslera of Uruguay.

FIFA started legal action against the four players after they were eliminated from the tournament in Qatar after defeating Ghana 2-0 in their final group match on December 2.

Uruguay had a chance to advance to the round of 16 in the Group H deciders when South Korea scored in stoppage time to defeat Portugal 2-1 and qualify by virtue of scoring one more goal than Uruguay across their three games.

The tackles on Liverpool's Darwin Nunez in the first half and on Cavani in the last minutes of the game were not given penalties by the German referee, Daniel Siebert, despite Luis Suarez, a former Barcelona star, claiming after the match that FIFA was "against Uruguay."

The four players will also be required to perform community service connected to football and pay fines of up to 20,000 Swiss francs ($21,701).

Additionally, FIFA ruled that Uruguay must partially close its stadium when it hosts the following FIFA "A" international game.
