2023: Ayu does not have to resign unless he chooses to.

Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta, stated that Iyorchia Ayu, the chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), cannot be coerced into resigning from his position.

The candidate for vice president stated that the former president of the Senate could only step down if he did so voluntarily.

Olisa Ifeajika, Okowa's Chief Press Secretary, stated that it was a constitutional matter on Monday when she was speaking to the media.

The statement was made in response to the requests made by the G5 governors, who are led by the Governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike.

Because Ayu hails from the same region as the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, the chieftains are adamant that he must step down from his position.

Ifeajika stated that in the state of Rivers, both the party chairman and the candidate for governor, Siminalayi Fubara, are from the Southern region of the state.

We did not see Wike ask the chairman to step aside because another contender for governor emerged from the same senatorial district as he did.

The CPS made the observation that it would become relevant if Atiku were to become President while Ayu continued to serve in government.

"There is no law that mandates Ayu to retire, unless he decides to stand down on his own volition," he said, pointing out that there is no legal requirement for him to do so.
