Due to disagreements over who should lead the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the Edo State Government shut down the organization's secretariat on Friday.
In addition, the government issued orders to all of the state security services, instructing them to apprehend any individuals or organizations that disobey the decree.
This comes as a result of the protests voiced by certain dissatisfied members of the council regarding the purported scheme hatched by higher-ups to install a friend or family member at the helm of the new leadership of the council.
The government, in a statement published by its Commissioner for Youth and Gender Issues, Andrew Emwanta, said that the decision became necessary due to the leadership succession crisis rocking the state chapter of the NYCN. The announcement was issued by the government.
In addition, Emwanta stated that the Transition Management Committee, which was established to plan the election for the Youth Council, will work from a place that will be provided by the ministry that is in charge of monitoring the situation.
