Attempt to bury lover, children alive lands a native doctor in remand.

Nonso, a native of Umuona in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, was simply identified as the person who was arrested for attempting to bury alive his lover and her two children. Nonso was the native doctor who was arrested.

On Wednesday, he faced an attempted murder charge in a Chief Magistrates Court that was sitting in Awka. The court remanded him to prison custody after finding him guilty of the offense.

According to information obtained by DAILY POST, the man who was involved in a romantic relationship with a single mother of two children sent a commercial motorcyclist to retrieve the woman and her children before later slitting the woman's throat and attempting to bury her and her children in a grave that had been dug in the man's backyard.

After being released from the hospital, the victim related her account, stating that she went to see the suspect because he had earlier promised to marry her and she wanted to follow through on his promise.

"On that fateful day the suspect sent a bike man to bring me and the kids to his house," she claims he said. "On that fateful day the suspect shot himself." On that particular day, he forbade any of us from going home because it was already so late. After some time had passed, he informed me that he had a surprise in store for me, and he proceeded to blindfold me with a white handkerchief.

She stated that it was at that time that she struggled to know what was happening, but sadly, it was too late as the suspect had already brought a knife and begun slicing her throat. She claimed that it was at that point that she battled to know what was happening.

In addition, the victim stated that despite the fact that she fought for her life, she was ultimately overpowered and dragged to a grave that had been dug to a depth of 4-5 feet in the suspect's backyard, where she was then pushed into the grave. She also stated that the suspect, after throwing a large stone over her head, went to bring a shovel to cover her, but she started screaming, which woke up the suspect's sister, who had been asleep for a considerable amount of time.

According to her, it was the suspect's older sister who came to her rescue after she had also alerted members of the public, who captured the native doctor, but by that time, the bike man, who was his accomplice, had escaped. This occurred after she had also alerted members of the public, who captured the native doctor.

According to what DAILY POST has learned, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, made a request for the victim and her two children to be assisted by her Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) response team. The victim was subsequently arraigned after the request was made.

The charge was read to the defendant during the proceedings at the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Court presided over by Genevieve Osakwe. However, the defendant did not enter a plea during those proceedings.

In addition to this, the court ordered that the original case file be sent from the police department to the office of the Attorney General and remanded the defendant to the correctional facility.

The court postponed the hearing until December while issuing an order to the police to secure the capture of the accomplice who had gotten away.
