The National Executive Committee, or NEC, meeting that was being held in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has come to a successful conclusion.
You may remember that after the federal government paid the first half of October salary to members of ASUU, the lecturers at the universities got together to discuss whether or not they should participate in another round of industrial action.
The president of the union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, has not yet disclosed the results of the discussion, thus specifics on the meeting that took place on Monday night are now unknown.
However, a member of the NEC said in a conversation with a correspondent for the DAILY POST that the union has decided to grant the FG further time.
According to him, the union came to the conclusion that it would be best to give Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, at least two weeks to intervene in the situation and find a solution to the problem with the "No Work, No Pay policy."
We are taking into consideration pupils who have already made their way back to campus. We came to the conclusion that we should allow them more time to complete the necessary tasks. He continued by saying, "I believe ASUU President should tell you more."
