To protect Nigerians, we are regulating IT-NITDA

In order to safeguard citizens, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has stated that it is regulating the Information Technology (IT) industry.

Kashifu Inuwa, the agency's director general and chief executive officer, revealed this on Monday in a speech at the beginning of a two-day IT training on artificial intelligence in Ibadan, the capital of the Oyo state.

The Vice Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Professor Abiodun Musa Aibinu, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on ICT and E-commerce, Adebayo Akande, and other attendees attended the ceremony held at the University of Ibadan.

Inuwa stated that the agency has put in place various enforcement measures to govern the IT sector during his speech at the event with the theme "Responsible Artificial Intelligence and Futuristic Technologies."

He insisted that the agency was taking these actions to safeguard the safety of the public and guarantee a free market.

Dr. Falilat Olaitan Jimoh spoke on behalf of Inuwa, which expressed concern about how IT technology may be used to promote the safe development of the country's digital economy.

As IT technology spurs new business and service models, the NITDA DG stated, "NITDA recognises the need to create and implement developmental policies to safeguard citizens and maintain fair markets while letting innovation and business grow.

"As a result, we are worried about how IT technology can be used to encourage healthy growth of the country's digital economy and safety, through the appropriate legislative instruments and implementation strategy that pushes the adoption of the technology by both public and private sectors."

In his talk, Aibinu pushed the government to use AI to combat unemployment and instability.
