The Misappropriation of Police Trust Fund Constitutes a Danger to National Security - RULAAC

Okechukwu Nwanguma, the executive director of the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Center (RULAAC), has stated that the national security is at risk due to the misappropriation of police trust monies and that those involved should be treated as enemies.

On Thursday in Yola, he made this statement at the opening of the civil society organisations observatory on the Police Act 2020 and the Police Trust Fund 2019.

Nwanguma emphasised the importance of including CSOs and the media in the development of monitoring capability.

The president signed the Police Act into law in 2020, giving rise to the current version. That was after operating a colonial police legislation for 70 years that was no longer appropriate for a democracy. According to the democratic system, the police must be guided by the law, he stated.

Aminu Sanusi, a participant, claimed that if the act was put into effect, the police would be better prepared for operations without using violence against commuters.
