According to the Katsina State Police Command, it successfully thwarted an attack on the village of Wapa in the state's Kurfi LGA and killed numerous terrorists while freeing two hostages.
In a press release released on Friday morning, the state's police public relations officer, SP Gambo Isah, revealed this.
The statement claims that no fewer than 24 thugs invaded the neighbourhood at around 1:00 am on Friday, shooting randomly and kidnapping two people in the process.
Alhaji Aminu Wapa and Wada Sale, both from Wapa village in the Kurfi LGA of the state, were identified by Gambo as the two abducted people.
The Katsina Police Command Spokesman revealed that many of the terrorists were feared dead in the thwarted attempt but pointed out that because of the quick response to the distress call, the police tactical squad was able to rescue the kidnapped victims.
In the statement, CP Idrisu Dabban Dauda, the commissioner of police, expressed appreciation for the efforts of the staff in fending off the terrorists and asked the public to continue helping security forces in their continuous fight against terrorists in the state.
