Ismaila Mustapha, also known online as Mompha, has been listed as sought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The Bendelnews had stated on June 30 2022 that Mompha's absence had caused his alleged N6 billion money laundering trial before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Ikeja Special Offenses Court to be put on hold.
Eight accusations relating to money laundering, conspiracy to launder money obtained through unlawful means, and laundering of money received through unlawful means were brought against Mustapha and his company, Ismalob Global Investment Ltd, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Other allegations include failure to disclose assets, possession of a document containing false pretences, use of property obtained via unlawful activity, and retention of proceeds of criminal action.
Following Mustapha's absence from court on June 22, Justice Dada had issued a bench warrant for his arrest. Along with that, Dada revoked the defendant's bail. On June 16, the internet sensation skipped court.
However, the anti-graft agency issued a notice on Wednesday stating that the troubled social media star was sought for an offence and was signed by Wilson Uwajaren, its spokesperson.
"The general public is hereby informed that ISMAILA MUSTAPHA, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Retention of Proceeds of Criminal Conduct, Possession of Document Containing False Pretenses, False Asset Declaration, and Laundering of Proceeds of Unlawful Conduct," the notice stated.
"Ismaila, 38, is from Oyo State's Ogbomosho Local Government Area. His most recent address was 21 Fagbenro Street in Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos State.
