Buhari congratulates Noel Alumona, first African AFS Award winner

Noel Ifeanyi Alumona has been congratulated by President Muhammadu Buhari for winning the 2022 AFS Award for Young Global Citizens.

The Nigerian, who is a Special Education student at Vanderbilt University in the United States, won the award for the first time since it was originally given out in 1914.
The AFS Intercultural Programs, The Youth Assembly, and the United Nations Global Communications Department awarded the student with the prize during the International Youth Day.

Buhari praised Alumona for his generosity and selflessness, saying that he has already set up foundations to care for the needs of the weaker, physically handicapped, and less fortunate.

The Nigerian leader praises his admirable character and commitment to assisting others, especially for bringing attention to his native country on a global scale.

He acknowledged the recipient's tenacious efforts to stop violence against women and girls by teaching males how to behave responsibly.

According to a statement from spokesman Femi Adesina, "The President prays that the Almighty God will continue to lead, guide, and grant Alumona wisdom to serve his country and humanity."

Alumona holds fellowships with the Obama Foundation, the United States Institute of Peace, and the United Nations Youth Assembly.
