Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, often known as Jenifa, has officially accepted the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, nomination for deputy gubernatorial candidate.
Akindele revealed in a video she shared on Tuesday on her Instagram page that she would be postponing her acting career and entering politics instead in order to bring about change and better the lives of Lagosians.
To improve Lagos, she urged young people to support her and Dr. Olajide Adediran, a candidate for governor.
"I am a Lagosian born in Ikorodu, therefore when the PDP gubernatorial candidate invited me to serve as his deputy governor, I saw it as an opportunity to further the welfare of our people, especially the underprivileged girls, women, and young people.
"My choice isn't just to take on this enormous duty; it's also to ensure that our beloved Lagos realises its full potential, with the people as its primary beneficiaries.
"Over the years, many young people have been marginalised and victimised for daring to pursue their dreams. I would want to take this occasion to condemn all well-meaning citizens of the country, especially the young people. It is absolutely time to unite and support one another, and to make the most of our combined numbers.
I am well aware of the toll that this assignment will take on my burgeoning career, which I must now compelably put on hold. However, I have made the decision that no sacrifice is too great for the accomplishment of the urgent mission to save our people and beloved state.
"I answer the summons with the utmost respect and feeling of duty. Yes, we can create a Lagos that is home to all of our citizens.
