The Peoples Democratic Party's Ademola Adeleke won the recently ended Osun governorship race, according to Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, sending a clear message to Nigerians in advance of the 2023 national elections.
According to bendelnews, Ademola Adeleke was proclaimed the winner of the Osun governorship race on Sunday morning by Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC's returning officer.
With 403,371 votes, former federal legislator Adeleke was declared the victor of the governorship race.
According to INEC, Adeleke received the most votes to defeat Gboyega Oyetola, who received 375,027 votes, as his main opponent.
In response, Obaseki praised the electoral commission for upholding what he called electoral reform while congratulating Adeleke on the "well earned" victory.
Obaseki claimed that the electoral reform, which he claimed began with the Edo State governorship election in 2020, has secured free, fair, and credible elections in a statement he personally signed on Sunday morning.
"We stand with the people of Osun in sending a clear message to Nigerians that we are prepared and ready to rescue them from the misery and troubles that they have been thrust into," the statement's opening line reads.
We express our gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for continuing the electoral reforms that were introduced in the Edo State governorship election held on September 19, 2020.
"These reforms have made sure that the election was conducted in a way that was peaceful, fair, and credible, allowing voters to choose the candidate of their choice.
"As a party, we remain committed in our resolve to save Nigeria, and this victory has energised us to enter the general elections of 2023 with a winning attitude."
