Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' (OPEC) Secretary-General, has passed away.
At around 11 o'clock on Tuesday night, Barkindo, 63, passed away.
Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited, confirmed his demise.
Wednesday morning, Kyari wrote in a tweet that Barkindo's passing was a tragedy for Nigeria, OPEC, his family, and the entire world.
We lost our respected Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, Kyari tweeted. He passed away yesterday, July 5, 2022, about 11 p.m. Undoubtedly a significant loss for his personal family, the NNPC, our nation, Nigeria, OPEC, and the international energy community," tweeted Kyari.
Funeral plans will be revealed soon, he said.
On Tuesday, Barkindo paid President Muhammadu Buhari a visit.
The dead was the third ex-GMD of the NNPC to pass away in the last two years.
