Jungle Justice: Police respond as a mob burns alive two ritualists for killing a minor by rape

The Enugu State Police Command has reacted to reports that two ritualists were burned to death on Monday in Ede-Oballa, Nsukka Local Government Area of the State, purportedly for raping a 10-year-old girl to death and taking her vital organs.

According to the DAILY POST, two alleged ritualists were set on fire by a mob in Ede-Oballa, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State.

For allegedly raping and dismembering the young girl, the supposed ritualists were executed by lynching.

The deceased's body was discovered in a neighbouring bush, her viral organs missing.

However, when Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), was called by DAILY POST, he confirmed the event.

The victim was identified by him as Miss Eze Nkemdirim.

"Investigation has been launched to catch those responsible for the mobbing and setting on fire of one Agbo Dere (male) and Ifeanyi Ugwu (male) at Ede-Oballa Nsukka, in the early hours of Monday, on the allegation that the pair were responsible for the murder of one little miss Eze Nkemdirim, aged 10, for ritual purposes," said Ndukwe.

The victim was first reported missing on June 28, 2022, at around 1 p.m., but it wasn't until her decomposing body was discovered in a thicket on July 2, 2022, that the angry crowd took action.

"In the meantime, community people have once again been urged to support the Police in their efforts to thoroughly investigate and provide the foundation for the administration of justice in criminal cases rather than turning to the kind of self-help that carries serious legal repercussions.
