Politicians who are dissatisfied with how the primaries were handled have been advised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take their complaints to court.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs, and Senate President Ahmad Lawan on its list of candidates for the Yobe North and Akwa Ibom north-west senatorial districts, respectively.
However, it was discovered that Lawan and Akpabio were not included in the list released by INEC.
"The Commission supports the monitoring reports we received from our state offices regarding the primary elections for the Akwa Ibom North West and Yobe North Senatorial Districts.
Festus Okoye, the INEC spokesperson, stated in a statement on Saturday that "for this reason, the Commission did not publish the particulars of any candidate for the two seats in variance with the State reports."
In his words, "as provided in section 285 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and sections 29(5) and 84(14) of the Electoral Act, 202," aggrieved parties should bring their case before the Federal High Court.
Okoye added that INEC's team has been putting in a lot of effort to handle the flood of requests for the issuing of certified true copies (CTCs) of documents that have been received.
