The Nigerian Federal Government has started training police officers nationwide in human and police rights as well as dispute resolution.
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTFtraining )'s programme began in Abuja, the nation's capital.
Director of General Services for the Ministry Edenmaya Brayia represented Minister of Police Affairs Muhammad Dingyadi.
According to Dingyadi, the seminar would strengthen links between the police, local governments, and citizens while also utilising human intelligence to reduce crime.
The minister reaffirmed that the government was committed to enhancing police' abilities, expertise, and job performance as well as keeping them abreast of contemporary policing methods.
He assured the attendees, "I have no doubt that at the conclusion of this programme, you will emerge renewed and repositioned for more effectively carrying out your very tough mission of defending the nation.
According to Dinyadi, police officers participating in the capacity-building will also receive instruction on how to provide proper protection for the general elections in 2023.
The training, according to Muhammad Yahaya, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the NPTF, was included in the 2021 budget that was approved by the National Assembly and put into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
