Dayo Israel, the national youth leader for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described his attempts to end the Academic Staff Union of Universities' (ASUU) current strike.
Israel said that yesterday in Abuja, he met with Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige to discuss how to put a stop to the ASUU strike.
The APC youth leader said in a series of tweets that he also discussed the ongoing strike with the leaders of ASUU and the National Association of Nigerian Students, or NANS.
Israel stated that he will continue to talk with key stakeholders on how to end the current industrial action.
"I recently met Nigeria's Minister of Labour Chris Ngige with my Youth Leaders at his residence in Abuja to discuss the best course of action for ending the ASUU Strike," he claimed. Before my meeting with the Minister, I spoke to the presidents of ASUU and NANS earlier in the day.
"I also used the Ministers Phone to speak with the Chairman of the Wage, Income and Salaries Commission. I can let Nigerians know that the FG has put together a counter offer to ASUU and will give it to Mr. President this week.
We urge all interested parties to find a common ground and make sure that our youth return to school this month as our discussions will continue.
ASUU has reportedly been on strike since February 2022, according to DAILY POST.
This happened after they had returned from an earlier strike.
The Federal Government's unwillingness to let ASUU use its own created payment mechanism, University Transparency Accountability Solution, UTAS, among other requests, was the cause of the most recent strike.
