Arewa Consultative Forum slams President Buhari over increased insecurity, saying security spending has been useless.

According to the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), President Buhari's inability to stop the increase in kidnapping, murder, and terrorist acts has revealed his lack of leadership skills.

The group expressed regret over the level of insecurity, particularly in the Northern region, in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Murtala Aliyu.

It said supporters of President Buhari must tell him the truth about how bad insecurity is in the country and not just what he sweetens his ears with.

The large sum of money that has been poured into the security agencies, according to the group, has been largely ineffectual.

"Over the past few months, the security challenges we face in Nigeria have gotten worse, and bloodshed and violence have dangerously increased.

Nigeria has been besieged by criminal gangs, heavily armed bandits, armed robbers, secessionist militants, and individuals identifying as soldiers of the so-called Caliphate. more so in the states in the north.

The well-planned attack on the Kuje Prison in the Federal Capital of Abuja on July 5, 2022, and the mass breakout of Boko Haram terrorists and other hardened criminals have caused an unprecedented wave of anxiety and panic among the long-suffering people, especially those of the North.

The public is asking how and where these crises, which are unprecedented in severity, will leave us as they approach the advance convoy of Mr. President travelling to Daura and after the deadly attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train on March 28, 2022, in which many people were killed and many more were kidnapped.

We have always wished him well and count ourselves among his enthusiastic fans, but given Nigeria's quick slide into war, violence, and lawlessness, we can no longer afford to tell him simply what he wants to hear.

The president does require hearing what we are saying. Simply put, there are no polite or less painful words to adequately express the profound exasperation felt by the majority of Nigerians, particularly in the North, over the President's ineffective handling of the country's security challenges.

The President committed to address the issue before the conclusion of his term in his Sallah statement. Nigerians will, however, understandably come to the conclusion that the government is useless and must do more if they are ever to succeed in putting an end to the crises as long as they continue unabated.

The enormous sums of money and other resources being pumped into the security agencies have largely been ineffective, likely because President Buhari is unable or unwilling to hold his appointees accountable for any deterioration of the security situation and some other socioeconomic sectors under their watch.

The necessary increase in manpower and equipment, long identified as the campaign's weak point, hasn't been implemented to the necessary degree to secure the country.

The attack on the Kuje jail and others like it that have occurred in some parts of Nigeria would have resulted in a major reorganisation, resignations, and perhaps legal action against officials who are careless, inept, or just plain untrustworthy.

The mandate and accountability for ensuring that Nigeria's government maintains peace, security, order, and good governance rest exclusively with the president.

We demand that President Buhari rise to the occasion right away and braces up. To stop the widespread insecurity that is dragging the nation to its knees, the regime needs to reprioritize its programmes and free up more resources.
