Bishop Kenneth Obi, the chairman of the Citizens for Righteousness and Social Justice, Imo State chapter, has urged Nigerians to make sure they cast their votes for candidates who exhibit integrity and moral character in the general elections of 2023, warning that failure to do so will negatively impact the nation's fortunes.
The preacher claimed that if Nigerians are willing and obedient to work for it, a new Nigeria where terrorists and bandits are subdued and the currency regains its value, where the seasonal ASUU strike is a thing of the past and there is regular and stable electricity, is conceivable.
In a conversation with media in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, Bishop Obi, who is also the Bishop of Divine Word International Church of God in Christ, made this statement.
He highlighted that, despite how dire things are in Nigeria, change will only come if Nigerians are submissive and eager to contribute.
He stated that in order to end insecurity and the periodic ASUU strike, "Nigerians should smash bad leadership. Nigerians must be prepared to take the necessary action to get their nation back on track.
"As things are, if nothing is done and no one speaks out to say enough is enough, things will only become worse, and by 2023, we'll still have the same owners.
"That's why I'm calling on every Nigerian to take a stand and be counted; now is not the time to sit around and whine, but now is the time to take a stand and be counted," he said.
He asserted that "in the history of Nigeria, it has never been this awful. Since 2015, Nigerians have endured enough hardship, and it has no bounds.
It is a difficult problem that can only be resolved if Nigerians are submissive and eager to contribute.
"While others from other political parties just want to be president because it's their turn, because they've made many governors, senators, and even the president," he said, "the other with his past record as a former VP wants to be president."
And if Nigerians do not unite to bring about the New Nigeria under the leadership of Peter Obi, the current farce will continue, and Nigeria will still be governed by the same people in 2023.
