In Adamawa State, a lady has been charged of murdering her husband in order to inherit his property.
The woman, Hafsat, is accused of plotting the murder of her husband, Saidu Mamman, with the help of two family children and a fourth person who carried out the plan.
Hapsat Saidu allegedly organised the murder of the family's head, Saidu Mamman, with the cooperation of Fa'iza Saidu and Faisal Saidu, the deceased's daughter and son, respectively.
According to the facts of the case, the trio admitted to paying N120, 000 to an outsider, Mathew Peter (called Goga), who reportedly executed Saidu so that they could have his goods.
While the trio is currently detained as a result of a Yola Chief Magistrate Court I ruling, the fourth suspect, Goga, is still missing.
Saidu Mamman, 60, was assassinated last month, on April 4, at his home in Sangere, a hamlet in Girei Local Government Area, near the state capital, Yola, according to reports.
Saidu was found unconscious in a pool of his own blood by 6:00 a.m. that fateful day, according to police records, and was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Yola, where he was pronounced dead.
Inspector Hamza Abdullahi, the prosecuting officer, said the State Police Command received information by 6:30 a.m. on the day of the incident and apprehended the defendants.
"The defendants were apprehended and confessed to conspiring among themselves and hiring one Mathew Peter (now at large) to assassinate the said Saidu for the sum of N120, 000," the police prosecutor stated.
The defendants pleaded guilty to the accusation of criminal conspiracy brought against them in court.
As a result, the Police Prosecutor requested an adjournment of the case so that the investigation could be completed and the case file could be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The case was continued to next month, July 4, by Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Mohammed Digil, who also ordered the accused to be held in prison custody.
