Power Generation: State governments to generate and transmit their own electricity soon-President Buhari.

To solve the difficulties of energy supply across the country, President Muhammadu Buhari announced on Tuesday that his administration is decentralising the nation's national grid using renewable mini-grids.

At an interview with Bloomberg News, Buhari stated that his government had set aside 550 million dollars to provide 20,000 stand-alone solar systems (SHS) and Solar Hybrid mini-grids in over 250 locations across the country.

The problem had been exacerbated by an increase in diesel, which is used as an alternative source of energy by most houses and businesses, resulting in a rise in products and services.

"We're also decentralising the national grid through renewable-driven mini-grids," the President stated, referring to measures to fix the national grid's collapse.

"Over 20,000 Standalone Solar Systems (SHS) and Solar Hybrid mini-grids have been implemented in over 250 locations as part of the 550 million USD Nigeria Electrification Project."

Buhari also mentioned that there are hundreds of ongoing projects and initiatives, such as the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), a government-to-government initiative between Nigeria's and Germany's governments, in partnership with Siemens AG, to upgrade the electricity grid with a $2 billion investment.

"The constitutional amendment bill just passed by parliament will allow state governments to generate and transmit their own power, further boosting investor engagement in our market and enabling states and local companies to transmit excess supply to the grid," Buhari stated.
