Organ Harvesting: I won't assume Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife are guilty unless I see evidence or a court rules so-Fani-Kayode

Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, and his wife Beatrice may not be responsible for the alleged organ harvesting of a child, according to former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode.

Ekweremadu and his wife were detained and charged by the Metropolitan police in the UK for allegedly taking an imported child's organs.

The couple is alleged to have brought a homeless 15-year-old boy from the streets of Lagos to the UK. They appeared before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court on Thursday but were denied bail.

However, Ekweremadu informed the court through his attorney, Gavin Irwin, that he never arranged transportation for anyone with the aim to take advantage of them.

Fani-Kayode responded by saying that Ekweremadu should be seen as innocent until proven guilty by the court.

Fani-Kayode stated on Facebook that it is "completely unacceptable" and "a major criminal under British law" for a man to bring a child into the country with the intention of harvesting its organs for another person's use.

According to the law, neither a youngster CANNOT consent to such a course of action nor can parents consent to such a despicable crime on behalf of their children.

Child rights are important. They cannot be purchased or sold for their body parts because they are not slaves or property.

"Neither their parents nor anyone else has the authority to sell the children for this or for any other reason, or to purchase the child or any of his or her body parts.

"Despite all of this, I refuse to assume that Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife are accountable for this horrible conduct until I get a chance to review the available information or until a properly constituted court of law finds otherwise.

"In criminal cases, there is a presumption of innocence, and this is what I cling to.

"At this trying time, I pray for the Ekweremadu family, and I also pray for that sad child whose organs were going to be removed.

"May God give us more awareness, empathy, love, and kindness in this nation, particularly for our children.
