JUNE 12: Implement MKO Abiola's Manifesto-Family Tells FG.

The family of MKO Abiola, the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, has urged the Federal Government to fulfil the late politician's programme.

The family feels that this will help the country's less fortunate citizens.

Murtala Abiola, the head of the Abiola family, revealed this while speaking to reporters at their family property in Gbagura, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, during the yearly prayer session for the late business mogul.

According to Murtala, Abiola's "Farewell to Poverty" manifesto gave ideas on how to help students, the unemployed, and the elderly.

He explained that Abiola's programme included provisions for students and the unemployed, all of which were aimed at eradicating poverty in Nigeria.

"Everyone must profit from it," he said, emphasising that Nigeria's money belongs to all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity or religion.

The family went on to say that the United States of America has a system in place for caring for the elderly, pleading on the Nigerian government to follow suit.

"In Nigeria, all of these programmes should be made available. "We all travel abroad to explore what's available," he explained.

He expressed sorrow that Nigerian cash wind up in the hands of a few politicians.

"The money will run out, and whoever is retaining the money will run out," he said emphatically.

Murtala regarded Abiola as a rare breed, claiming that "another MKO Abiola" would take a century for Nigeria to create.

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, attended the prayer and stated that the state would continue to work in line with the late MKO Abiola's objective of improving the welfare of the people.
