Despite videos circulating online claiming Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was involved in an accident on his way to commiserate with the Ondo State government and families of victims of Sunday's attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Laolu Akande, the VP's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, has denied the claim.
On Monday, Akande stated he stumbled across a traffic accident on his way to the airport and stopped to help the victims in a tweet posted to his verified Twitter profile.
He went on to say that Osinbajo was already in Ondo State and on his way to the attack scene.
"VP came across a road traffic accident on his way to the airport this morning, stopped to help, and made sure the injured was transferred to the hospital by VP's convoy ambulance."
He subsequently continued on his journey, and is now in Ondo State, on his way to the Owo attack location," Akande wrote.
When contacted by our correspondent, Akande disputed that his principal was engaged in an accident, as reported in the circulating footage and internet media.
In addition, the Federal Road Safety Corps has refuted claims that the vice president's convoy was involved in an accident.
According to Oga Ochi, the Federal Capital Territory Sector Commander of the FRSC, Osinbajo was on his way to the airport when he stopped to help an accident victim.
Osinbajo also took the sufferer to the hospital and paid his cost, according to him.
"Neither the Vice President nor the automobiles in his convoy were in an accident." On his way to the airport, the VP witnessed a collision in which a victim was trapped.
He came down to provide a hand. He even went to the hospital with them and paid the person's costs," Ochi claimed.
