At gun point, a tricycle driver raped and robbed a female passenger in Ogun.

In Ogun State, a tricycle driver is under investigation by the police after allegedly raping and robbing his female passenger.

Rasaq Tahoeed, 22, the rider, was detained after police at the Ifo division received a distress call at around 4 a.m. on Monday.

The middle-aged woman who is claimed to have gotten on the tricycle at Iyana Coker in Ifo had complained that Taoheed was going her somewhere she didn't know.

The DPO of the Ifo division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, responded to the distress call by leading his patrol team to the area, where the suspect was quickly apprehended, according to a statement released on Monday by the Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

During questioning, the victim told the police that she had taken a tricycle to travel to Iyana Coker from the Pakoto bus stop when the suspect suddenly pulled out a locally-made pistol and threatened to shoot her if she didn't cooperate.

She went on to say that the suspect forced her into a rape at the Olose Primary School in Ifo.

"After raping her, the suspect also robbed all of her money before re-boarding the tricycle and turning around to go in a different direction.

However, when she arrived in the Aritameje neighbourhood, she spotted some people and cried out, prompting the arrest of the perpetrator.

The alleged tricycle and revolver were found on the suspect, according to Oyeyemi, who also stated that he "admitted to the commission of the crime."

Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police in Ogun, has in the meantime mandated that the suspect be swiftly moved to the State CIID for covert investigation.
