[ASSU Strike]: ASSU Goes Against Government's ‘no work-no-pay’ policy on lecturers To Continue Strike.

The Yobe State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has cautioned its members not to submit to any threat from the state government intended at causing division and distraction among them.

The claim was contained in a five-point resolution issued following an emergency congress meeting called by the union to discuss the current strike action and other local issues, including the imposition of the state government's 'No work-No pay' strategy.

Dr. Mohammed Saje Jajere, chairwoman of the YSU-ASUU branch, stated that after thorough consideration, the congress has unanimously reiterated its position to continue the nationwide strike, despite the no-work-no-pay approach being implemented without notice.

"As the war continues, the Congress has praised its members for their dedication and perseverance in the patriotic cause."

"The Congress has urged its members not to submit to any form of threat in order to avoid creating division and disruption among members," he said.

To alleviate the burden of the pay freeze, the Chairperson stated that a coping strategy has been implemented through the ASUU-YSU Multipurpose Cooperative Society, and invited members to contact the Cooperative's EXCO for further information on how to access various services.

"A unified people can never be vanquished," Dr. Jajere emphasised.

The varsity's administration has announced the commencement of academic activities on June 27th, 2022, after the Directorate of Academic Planning of the institution released an updated academic calendar for the 2020/2021 academic session and advised students to take note for compliance.

According to reports, certain academic personnel at the university's managerial level began lectures on the specified day and have sworn to continue in accordance with the revised calendar.
