Breaking: Over 30 vigilante men killed by bandits in Zamfara's Gidan Dan Inna neighbourhood.

In a gunfight at Gidan Dan Inna hamlet in Auki district, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, suspected bandits killed around 30 members of the local vigilantes known as Yan Sakai.

Idris Ambomade, a resident of the town whose brothers were killed, told DAILY POST in Kaduna about the tragedy on Tuesday.

He claimed that bandits were invading communities, including Gidan Inna hamlet, and robbing cows and other animals, as well as shooting dead some enraged community members whose animals were being looted.

Umar Sanielema, the leader of the vigilante organisation known in the community as Yan Sakai, mobilised his crew to go after the robbers, at the very least to reclaim their cows from the criminals.

"Within half an hour, the vigilantes had gathered and were chasing the rustlers on motorcycles." He stated

When the armed bandits discovered they were being pursued, they split into two groups, one to herd the stolen animals into the forest and the other to create an ambush for the vigilantes who were approaching, according to Ambomad.

He claimed that as soon as the robbers observed vigilantes riding motorcycles, they opened fire on them, killing around 30 people on the spot.

The bodies of the deceased vigilantes, who came from more than ten communities, were later removed and buried in their villages, he claimed.

SP Muhammad Shehu, the state Police Command's spokesman, did not pick up his phone call or react to a text message seeking confirmation.
