APC Convention: I never supported Adamu, I Only Supported a consensus candidate

Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transportation, has revealed why Abdullahi Adamu emerged as the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress's National Chairmanship.

After other contenders withdrew from the race, he was able to win through a consensus agreement, according to Bendelnews.

Emma Enukwu of Enugu State was also elected as the Deputy National Chairman, South, by consensus.

At the party's national convention, the consensus candidates were confirmed by voice vote.

In an interview with Channel Television, Amaechi revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari held extensive consultations with governors, founding members of the party, and other stakeholders before appointing Adamu.

Despite the fact that all of the candidates were qualified and eager to lead the party, he claimed that Buhari chose the person who could manage the party for the time being, adding that Adamu was first among equals.

When asked why he backed Adamu, Amaechi said he never backed the former Nasarawa governor, preferring instead to back a consensus candidate backed by the President and other stakeholders.

When asked why he supports Adamu, he replied, "You're wrong." "I'm a consensus supporter, so when they reach a consensus, I'm a consensus supporter, not Abdullahi Adamu."

"Everyone makes the mistake of jumping to conclusions simply because no one has heard my voice in a long time and no one has seen me in front of any candidate."

"No one can claim to have seen me in front of Akume, Almakura, or Abdullahi Adamu today." I was simply calm and quiet, allowing the party to choose who they wanted to vote for.

"I'm backing the candidate who emerged as a consensus among the President, Governors, and other stakeholders.

I'm voting for the consensus candidate, and if Abdullahi Adamu is the consensus candidate, then all of us who were consulted will vote for him.

"He'll make an excellent leader." As you can see, they're all qualified to lead the party. My friend Mustapha is young, vibrant, and eager to rule. Almakura was a governor, and Akume was a wonderful governor in Benue.

"My Senator friend Musa is qualified." If you're not qualified, you can't serve in the Senate. All of them are qualified, but one will stand out. In parliament, this is referred to as 'first among equals.'

"As a result, Abdullahi Adamu represents everyone in the party as first among equals." Consultations? Everyone was consulted by the President. He consulted the governors, stakeholders, and others.

"The President invited us to dinner. I'm sure you've seen the President's photos with the founding members.

So it came down to, "OK, we think all of them are qualified, but we think this person can manage the party for the time being.
