Before departing Gabon's camp for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang advised Patrice Neveu's troops to'stick together,' according to Gabon striker Axel Meye.
Aubameyang has returned to Arsenal for medical tests after leaving the Gabonese camp in Cameroon.
The 32-year-old striker was forced to withdraw from the ongoing AFCON 2021 due to heart problems.
Meye told CAF Online on Monday, ahead of Gabon's last Group C match against Morocco tonight, "It was not easy for me because I missed the first game after testing positive for Covid-19."
"It was a difficult moment for me to process because I wanted to help."
"However, I aim to contribute to the team." I'm feeling better in every way, and I'm ready for tomorrow's game. The absence of Aubameyang and Mario is felt; we are stronger together... but it is critical to prioritise health.
"Aubameyang has requested that the team keep united, and we shall do so."
