Along Ngwa Road by Emejiaka Street in Aba, Abia State, a late afternoon flame razed a storey structure housing lock-up shops.
According to reports, a fire that broke out at a clothing shop around 3 p.m. on Saturday destroyed property worth millions of Naira.
While the fire was blazing, some occupants of neighbouring buildings who were concerned that the fire would spread to their buildings began packing up their belongings, while others fled for safety.
Residents used buckets to collect water from wherever they could to try to put out the fire because firefighters were nowhere to be found.
The Abia Fire Service's chief could not be reached for comment on the incident right away.
